Silent Night

Karl Ingar Røys

Abstract:

In 2022 an average of eleven cars a week were torched in Berlin. The risk of having your car burned is highest in Neukölln. The Berlin police analysis showed that of the total 578 car fires in the city:

▶ 376 vehicles was directly set on fire and 202 collateral damage
▶ 30 of these fires were politically motivated.

The project “Silent night/Wir bleiben alle” is exploring a city's social acoustics by analyzing strategies, aesthetics, content and actions as choreographed movements between urban actors. Behind the loud silence, a mute language takes shape, forming unspoken sentences by monumentalising urban artefacts.
The city is a theatre and you are the spectator.
